NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

Welcome to Nirmala College for Women National Service Scheme (NSS).

The NSS of Nirmala College for Women is a central sector scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports that has been established in our college in the year 1976. At present, it has 300 dedicated volunteers providing services in and around Coimbatore region. Our NSS wing has been conducting different socio-welfare activities such as tree plantation, cleaning activities and various awareness programmes for the betterment of the society. Regular activities and Special Annual Camps are conducted every year to inculcate leadership quality and team spirit of the students. Our students actively volunteer various services in adopted villages, educate illiterate people of villages. Hence, National Service Scheme provides the students not only an opportunity to understand the community; identify its needs and to render possible solutions but also to evolve as socially responsible citizens.

POLICIES

  • To motivate the student community to enhance their potentialities for the welfare of the society.
  • To develop the overall personality of the student volunteers through community services.
  • To enhance the leadership qualities, fraternal love and team spirit of the student volunteers.
  • To improve the physical, mental strength of the volunteers and to express them to new vocational possibilities.
  • To encourage and train the student volunteers to render their selfless service in the college and to the society.

PRACTICES

  • In NSS 150 student volunteers are recruited every year with 50 volunteers in each Unit with the concurrence of their parents.
  • Regular meetings and orientation programmes are conducted to the student volunteers to gain personal skills in the exercise of community building.
  • Volunteers participate in regular activities such as Rally, Seminars, Workshops and Awareness Programmes and involve themselves in the service of the society.
  • Volunteers are provided a chance to participate in the Republic Day parade at Rajpath, New Delhi which inculcates the bond of patriotism and brotherhood being the citizens of India.
  • The volunteers participate in the National Youth Festivals and thereby are given the opportunity to inherit the cultural heritage and communal harmony of the nation.
  • Student volunteers participate in the National Integrated Camps that are conducted every year in different states of India, serves a platform to exhibit their talents and to motivate the volunteers to grow in their integrated personality.
  • The annual special camps are conducted every year that involves all the volunteers of the three units. Active participation of the annual camp enables the volunteers to grow in team spirit, help them to interact and mingle with the society and to render their dedicated service.

OUTCOMES

  • By participating in the various activities of NSS, the student volunteers become more disciplined and self-confident.
  • Each programme of the NSS help the student volunteers to identify their talents and promote them as a good leader and citizen of the nation.
  • By giving awareness programmes to the student community and society, each volunteer becomes aware of the social issues and they enable themselves to face the challenges courageously.
  • Student volunteers inculcate the team spirit among themselves.
  • The NSS volunteers become capable of planning and executing any programmes entrusted to them for the betterment of the society.
  • They develop their character by serving in the rural areas and thereby developing the social consciousness and commitment.
  • They promote national integration democratic living and cooperative action by their well-disciplined and systematic way of life.
  • The volunteers grow in the consciousness of “NOT ME BUT YOU”.
  • The volunteers become more sensitive to the need of the society such as education, medicine and other basic needs.
  • The student volunteers contribute to the society by planting trees, educating the poor children and participating in the social empowerment programmes.
