The Kashmir War of 1948 taught a very important lesson to India, that freedom needs to be protected by strong Armed Forces. Its Immediate manifestation was that the recommendations of Kunzuru Committee were placed before the Constituent Assembly on 19th March 1948, which evoked a great interest and enthusiasm amongst all members. After due deliberation and amendments, the bill was passed by the assembly on 8th April 1948. The Central Government accepted the origin of the Provincial Governments and the Standing Committee’s recommendations for the formation of a Cadet Corps which was to be named as “National Cadet Corps” as recommended by the Kunzuru Committee. The bill received the assent of The Governor General on 16th April 1948, and The National Cadet Corps came into being by an Act of the Parliament Act No.XXXI of 1948 designated the National Cadet Corps Act 1948’

The NCC of Independent India was inaugurated on 15th July 1948. In the year 1948 a total of 96 units of senior Division were raised, with 20,000 cadets. The journey of the Indian Youth Organization, has now became the largest uniformed youth organization in the world with 13 lakh Cadets on its rolls.

  • To develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of Adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst the Youth Citizens.
  • To enhance the spirit of unity and discipline among the cadets.
  • The National Cadet Corps of Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore is a voluntary programme under the unit 5 TN Girls Battalion. The total strength allotted to our college is 104.
  • The NCC parades are conducted twice a week.
  • As it is essential to complete the parades in a year for a NCC Cadet, both single and double parades are conducted.
  • During parades, training in drill as well as theory classes on special and common subjects are conducted.
  • Various camps like ATC, CATC, NIC, ACC, TSC NSC, VSC, RCTC, RDC, YEP, ABC,SSB etc, are also conducted.
  • Institutional Training enhances the cadets to inculcate in them the values of discipline, duty, punctuality, orderliness, smartness, respect for the authorities, correct work ethics and self-confidence.
  • Camp Training aims to introduce cadets to 'A Regimental way of life’s and helps in developing camaraderie, teamwork, leadership qualities, self-confidence, self-reliance and dignity of labour in the cadets .
  • Certificate Examinations: 'B' & 'C' are conducted in every second and third year. The cadets who have attended requisite number of parades and camps during their training period are eligible to write the certificate examinations.
  • As the NCC Cadets are directly association with the ministry of defence, holds a lot of weightage in their career option ( The Cadets attended RD Parade at Delhi)
  • Since the camp are held all over India and also in various parts of the world (YED camp), the cadets get an opportunity to visit new places and learn the art of Independence, to use their social skills and to adapt themselves on varying environment.
  • Both the Institution and camp training strengthens the spirit of being an Indian and other valuable qualities such as selflessness, ways to build confidence and gain leadership qualities.
  • The Cadets are taught other skills such as parachuting, paragliding and basic aviation courses because of which they have an edge over others when appearing for the armed forces.
  • Cadets holding 'B' & 'C' Certificates are recognized and vacancies reserved for them by several Central and State Government organizations give special preference to NCC.
