ECO CLUB

The Ecoclub of the Department of Zoology was initiated in the year 2003. Field trips, educational tours and visits to tribal villages have been organized each year to instill compassion and concern for nature and the needy. Programmes instilling awareness for the environment has been arranged systematically each year.

Vision

To educate students on the importance of environment, wildlife and its conservation.

Mission
  • To organize guest lectures, seminars and conferences.
  • To involve students of all disciplines in Ecotrips.
  • To organize competitions on issues related to environment and wildlife.
  • To commemorate the environmental day and wild life week each year.

Objectives

  • To create awareness in students on climate change and wildlife through guest lectures, seminars and conferences.
  • To inculcate the importance of wildlife through active participation in field trips and competitions.
  • To realize the importance of the environment, ecosystem and food chain through commemoration of important days.

Practice

  • Resource persons are invited from all over India to deliver lectures and interact with students.
  • Seminars and conferences are organized on themes of ecological importance in collaboration with National Institutes.
  • Competitions are organized for students to bring out their innate talents and love for nature.
  • Eco magazine is compiled each year, to surface the thoughts and explore information globally.
  • Students participate in rallies, awareness programmes and cleaning activity organized by NGO’s and Tamil Nadu Forest Department, seeking solution to different ecological issues.

Outcomes

  • Active participation of students in all programmes of ecological significance.
  • Developing an altruistic behavior of alleviating the snags in wildlife and nature.
