AICUF

The All India Catholic University Federation is indicated by the acronym AICUF is an organization of Catholic university students. The movement was first started in 1924, at St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli by Fr. Carty, SJ. The movement was initiated to develop leadership quality and to promote social awareness among students. The organization is affiliated to Pax-Romana, an international association of catholic professionals.

AICUF’s structure is geared to ensure its mass students movement character. The AICUF functions at the National, State, Regional and Unit levels. The state is the primary decision-making body in AICUF. The various states are linked at the national level as members of a federation.

AICUF voices to the emerging needs, realities and cruelties of the societal issues. The aim of AICUF is to respond to various social and societal issues especially where inequality and injustice are widespread.

  • To cultivate a deep and genuine concern for the oppressed, marginalized and the downtrodden
  • To commit themselves to the task of building a new and just society.
MISSION
  • To motivate students to become involved in activities related to broader social issues and struggles with a view to becoming a creative and critical force within the college.
  • To sensitize students physically, intellectually and spiritually towards those at the margins and involve ourselves in the struggle for their basic rights by equipping ourselves.

PRACTICES

  • Encouraging students to participate in various camps and retreats organized by AICUF and other organisations.
  • Organising seminars, workshops, symposiums, webinars on emerging societal issues.
  • Exposure visits to Old Age Home, Juvenile Detention Centre and Government Hospitals
  • “Pechu Medai” - setting up an atmosphere to exchange ideas among students in the college premises
  • Protesting for Societal issues through rallies, human chain etc
  • Enacting Street plays to inculcate awareness on various societal issues
  • Performing regional and rural art forms like Parai, Karakattam, Mayilattam, Poikkal Kutirai Aattam and so on
  • Participating in various competitions like Essay Writing, Debate, Poster Making, Poem Writing, Elocution etc
