The Department of Physics was incepted in the year 1950 at the Intermediate level. In 1956, the subject was taught at the Pre-University level. In the following year, Physics was upgraded to an Ancillary subject for the Undergraduate students of Mathematics and later in 1979, was also introduced to students of Chemistry.
Remedial classes-both in theory and practicals are conducted regularly to help slow learners compete with the other students.
Abdul Kalam Prize was instituted from 2006.
Study tours, field visits, energy conservation surveys form a regular part of the curriculum.
The laboratory is well-equipped with instruments like Digital IC Trainer, Digital and Analog Meters and Bread board.
