The DBT Star College Scheme was initiated for strengthening Life Science and Biotechnology education and training at the undergraduate level. The financial support by DBT, Government of India ensures that there is a substantial increase in the proportion of hands on experimental work by students, increased access to laboratory and bioinformatics infrastructure, life science related journals, summer school training. The scheme also includes graduation of faculty skills by organizing training programs.
The Department of Botany, Chemistry and Zoology were brought under the banner of the Star College Scheme in 2012. In the year 2015, they were placed under the continued status of the scheme. In 2017 they were upgraded to the Star Status and were awarded a handsome grant for sustaining activities and enhancement.
Additional departments were included in the year 2017 - Department of Mathematics, Geography and Computer Science.
